Molded Cantilever Chair — Surface Modelling Study
A single-piece cantilever chair modelled entirely with surfaces to practise continuous, curvature-smooth geometry — the hardest kind of shape to control in SolidWorks.

From rough idea to production-ready
Before
AfterWhat needed to be designed
The whole chair is one flowing skin. Any kink in the profile shows instantly under a glossy finish, so I had to keep tangency and curvature continuity across every boundary surface rather than patching things with fillets.
How DesignForge approached it
- 1
Laid out 2D profile and section sketches on planes to lock the silhouette and seat height.
- 2
Built the shell with lofted and boundary surfaces, matching curvature at each edge.
- 3
Ran zebra-stripe and curvature-comb checks, reworking sketches instead of adding cover-up fillets.
- 4
Knitted and thickened the surface body, then applied a glossy render appearance and studio lighting.
What was produced
Finished surface model with a glossy red appearance and zebra-clean transitions.
